Barkhamsted Historical Society Receives $24,000 Grant from Northwest CT Community Foundation

Barkhamsted, CT — The Barkhamsted Historical Society is pleased to announce that it has received a $24,000 grant from the Northwest CT Community Foundation Douglas and Janet Roberts Fund.

This generous funding directly supports several critical historic preservation and security projects, including exterior painting and repairs for the two outbuildings at the Merrill Tavern, as well as the installation of a new fire and security system at both the Merrill Tavern and the local schoolhouse. Additionally, the grant enables the society to begin internal restoration at the tavern by removing partitions in the ballroom that were previously added to divide the space into two bedrooms, alongside the purchase of new display panels for temporary exhibits.

While much work remains to be done inside, this grant—combined with the dedication of volunteers—brings the society closer to its goal of fully preserving this historic site. As restoration proceeds, the organization hopes to attract new community volunteers to assist its core team.
