District #4 - Northeast School
District #4 was in the northeast corner where Barkhamsted meets Hartland and Granby. A school building has been there since at least the 1850s on the north-south road now known as Hartland Road or Route 179. The building was on the east side of the road just north of Pine Mountain Circle. In years when the population did not warrant the continuation of the school, students would be transferred to a school in Hartland or to Washington Hill. Beginning in 1908 the school was closed for several years and the pupils taken by wagon down to Washington Hill, the earliest suggestion of school transportation. The school later reopened and was in operation from 1924 to 1930. The building sat abandoned in the field until the 1990s when new owners incorporated the old structure into a new house
